Omega-3 Index Basic test is used to measure, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), in the blood. The results of Omega-3 index testing reflect the omega-3 status over the last 4 months.  This test kit measures all the fatty acids and other ratios, that can guide you in improving health outcomes by ensuring proper levels of EPA, DHA, and other fatty acids and ratios in the body.

The normal range of the Omega-3 Index is 8-12%. This range is beneficial to maintain heart, brain, eye and joint health.

Measures omega-3 index

The omega-3 index is affected by many factors like gender, lifestyle, weight, genetics, age, supplements and diet. Omega-3 index testing measures the percentage of EPA and DHA in the blood. It also measures all the fatty acids levels in the blood, Omega-3 index, ratios, and trans fat including Omega-6:Omega-3 Ratio, AA: EPA Ratio, and trans fat Index.

Improve health outcomes

The test results are presented in the percentage. These results guide you on whether your omega-3 index is above or below the normal range. The value of less than 4% is an indicator of negative health outcomes. Higher omega-3 EPA and DHA levels are vital for brain health, heart health, eye health and longevity.

Your guide to a personalized approach

If the results of Omega-3 index testing are low, you should aim for 8 % to improve your health. For example, if your current Omega-3 Index Level (%) is 4 and you aim for a target Omega-3 index level of 8.0%, then the amount of EPA+DHA needed to reach your target blood level is 2220 mg.

You may need to optimise your diet, quit smoking, make lifestyle changes and take fish oil supplements, to maintain omega-3 levels. It is important to monitor omega 3 levels by testing it every 4 months. Once your levels come to normal, you can also take a re-test every 6 months.

Science-based results

The samples are processed in a certified laboratory and validated. The results obtained from this omega testing help you make personalised actionable decisions (dietary and lifestyle changes).
