Pure Encapsulations Lycopene is sourced from natural tomato concentrate. There is a significant amount of lycopene in fresh tomatoes, most of which is in the trans conformation, although there are also a number of cis isomers. During food processing, trans isomers of lycopene convert to cis as it is more stable in the presence of heat and light. In Pure Encapsulations Lycopene, the trans conformation of the molecule is preserved through a proprietary extraction process.

Lycopene is a carotenoid that is red in color and is found abundantly in tomatoes, apricots, watermelon, pink grapefruit, and pink guava. Lycopene has been shown to have antioxidant properties and has been studied as a possible cancer preventative.

In another study involving 30 male subjects, supplementation with lycopene improved prostate health. In this study, the lycopene supplement was shown to support prostate health better than dietary tomato consumption.
