Free Radical Quenchers provides a broad spectrum of pure
antioxidants which protect against free radical damage and oxidant stress.
Different antioxidants serve varied functions. Alpha tocopherol (vitamin E)
acts in cell membranes, while glutathione acts inside cells, particularly in
the liver. Beta carotene acts in places of low oxygen tension, such as the
capillaries of muscle tissue. Zinc specifically protects proteins, while lipoic
acid acts in the brain. Other nutrients play supportive roles, such as selenium,
which is a necessary co-factor for glutathione action. Together these nutrients
protect against a variety of environmental and biochemical insults, including
x-ray damage, chemotherapy, cigarette smoke, alcohol-induced liver damage and
heavy metals.
