5 HTP is an amino acid precursor used in the formation of serotonin. The body makes this from tryptophan (an essential amino acid you get from food). Pure encapsulations 5 HTP (5 Hydroxytryptophan) 100 mg support serotonin production in the body and promote emotional well-being and healthy sleep/wake cycles.

Clinical studies suggest that taking 5-HTP as a supplement boosts serotonin levels. Serotonin is an active neurotransmitter involved in the regulation of endocrine and brain activity responsible for emotional well-being, appetite, and healthy sleep/wake cycles.

In the body, it converts to serotonin with the removal of a carboxyl group (COOH) by a second enzyme. In clinical studies, the administration of 5-HTP supported serotonin production and it has been derived from the Griffonia simplicifolia plant.

Pure Encapsulations recommends 50-300 mg per day, Take 1–3 capsules per day, in divided doses, before meals.

Warnings

Not to be taken by pregnant or lactating women. 5-HTP may cause gastrointestinal upset in sensitive individuals. Do not use concurrently with SSRI medications or MAO inhibitors
